Accepting these terms
By creating an account, signing in, or directing Substrate to build or run software on your behalf, you agree to these terms. If you are signing on behalf of a company, you confirm you have authority to bind that company. If you do not agree, do not use Substrate.
Your account
You are responsible for the credentials your team uses to reach Substrate — sign-in sessions and API keys. Treat them like any other production secret. Notify us at security@alpine.im within 72 hours of suspected compromise.
You must be at least 18 years old to hold a Substrate account. Each member should be a real person; automated access routes through the API, not a shared login.
What Substrate does, and what stays yours
You set the intent — what should exist and what success means — and Substrate proposes, builds, runs, and improves software toward it. You remain the director: you grant trust, you judge results, and you can undo any change.
Two things are outside the system's reach by design and cannot be weakened by any prompt or setting: the rules by which your software is judged (the ground rules you set) and your ability to restore a prior version. We may describe, but never remove, these guarantees.
You own the software Substrate builds for you and the data it generates. You can export your source code at any time. We claim no ownership over it. You grant us a limited license — bounded to your account and the term of your subscription — to store, process, and operate it so the product can run.
Acceptable use
Substrate is for building and running legitimate software. You may not use it to create or operate unlawful products, to reach another account's data, to reverse-engineer the platform, or to direct it toward fraud, abuse, or content that violates the rights of others. You are responsible for the products you direct it to build and the obligations they carry.
We may rate-limit, suspend, or terminate accounts that materially violate this clause. We will tell you what happened and why.
Subscriptions, billing, refunds
Subscriptions are billed in advance for the period you select and renew automatically until cancelled. Building and running software incurs usage costs; you set a spending limit, and reaching it pauses new spend rather than surprising you. We will never raise a limit, a trust level, or a price on your behalf.
Trials convert to paid plans unless cancelled before they end. Fees already incurred are non-refundable except where required by law.
Service availability
We work to keep Substrate available and your software running, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We may perform maintenance, ship changes, and occasionally take features offline. Where a plan includes a service-level commitment, that commitment governs.
Intellectual property
The Substrate platform, its interfaces, and its brand are ours. The software it builds for you, and your data, are yours. Feedback you send us may be used to improve the product without obligation to you.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Substrate is provided "as is." We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, and our total liability is limited to the fees you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Termination
You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or that we are required to act on by law. On termination you can export your code and data for 30 days, after which it is deleted.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the product evolves. Material changes will be announced before they take effect, with a new "last updated" date. Continuing to use Substrate after a change means you accept it.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Substrate is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes are resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.
